Some seasons of life seem to last forever while you’re living them.
Pregnancy can certainly feel that way, especially during those final weeks. (Three of my four babies were overdue, so believe me…I understand.)
And then suddenly, it’s over.
The sleepless nights begin, tiny fingers wrap around yours for the very first time, and before you know it, that newborn who once fit on your chest is running through the backyard asking a hundred questions a day. My oldest is 12 now, and she’s taller than me. When I see her so grown up, wearing a cheerleading uniform and chatting with her friends, I think, “where did the time go?”
Looking back now, I wish I had documented each of my pregnancies. If I could go back, I would absolutely have one for every baby.
That’s one of the reasons I loved photographing Brittany and Nick’s maternity session at Fleurish Greenhouse in Taylorsville, North Carolina. This season of waiting deserves to be remembered just as much as the day your baby arrives.
One of my favorite things about Brittany and Nick was how naturally they fit together. Nothing felt forced. They laughed easily, held hands without thinking about it, and spent the evening simply enjoying each other’s company.
Those quiet moments are always my favorite to photograph. The ones that make you feel something.
Years from now, I don’t want you to remember where I asked you to stand or how I posed your hands.
I want you to remember what it felt like to be together before everything changed.

Fleurish Greenhouse has become one of my favorite locations for maternity sessions in North Carolina because it’s beautiful in every season and in almost every kind of weather.
The greenhouse is filled with soft natural light pouring through the glass from every direction. Whether it’s a bright summer evening, an overcast afternoon, or even a rainy day, the light inside remains beautiful, soft, and incredibly flattering.
Unlike many outdoor locations, we aren’t racing the sun or worrying about harsh shadows.
It simply photographs beautifully.
June is especially magical here.
The greenhouse is overflowing with olive trees, herbs, succulents, climbing greenery, textured pottery, weathered wood, and airy white architecture that feels both elegant and relaxed. The neutral surroundings never compete with your family. Instead, they create a timeless backdrop that keeps the focus exactly where it belongs.
On you.

Brittany’s wardrobe couldn’t have been more perfect for this location.
Soft creams, warm beiges, muted sage greens, linen textures, and other earthy neutrals complement Fleurish beautifully. Rather than drawing attention to your clothing, these colors create a soft, cohesive look that allows your connection and your growing baby bump to take center stage.
Flowing dresses are always one of my favorite choices for maternity sessions because they move beautifully, flatter every stage of pregnancy, and create a timeless look you’ll still love decades from now.
For partners, I usually recommend keeping things simple.
A neutral button-down, linen shirt, sweater, or henley paired with khakis, linen pants, or dark jeans photographs wonderfully without feeling overly formal.

This is one of the questions I get asked most often.
For most moms, I recommend scheduling your maternity session somewhere between 30 and 34 weeks.
By this point your belly has a beautiful, round shape, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to move freely and enjoy the experience.
If you’re expecting twins or have a higher-risk pregnancy, it’s often a good idea to schedule a little earlier.
The most important thing is not waiting until you feel like you’ve reached the “perfect” week.
There really isn’t one.

Almost every expecting mom says some version of the same thing before her session.
“I feel huge.”
“I don’t feel like myself.”
“I’ll probably look better after the baby comes.”
I understand.
I’ve been there four times.
Pregnancy changes your body in ways that can feel unfamiliar and uncomfortable.
But here’s what I’ve learned.
The way you feel while you’re pregnant often isn’t the way you’ll remember it years later.
When you look back at these photographs, you probably won’t notice the swelling in your hands or wonder whether your face looked a little fuller.
You’ll see the tiny home where your child spent their very first months.
You’ll remember the anticipation.
The excitement.
The waiting.
The love that had already begun.
You’ll remember becoming a mother all over again.

There is something beautifully mysterious about pregnancy.
You already know this little person in ways no one else does.
You recognize the rhythm of their kicks.
Maybe they’ve already developed a nighttime schedule that keeps you awake.
You’ve probably imagined what they’ll look like.
Wondered whose smile they’ll inherit.
Dreamed about who they’ll become.
And yet…
You don’t really know them.
Not yet.
You haven’t heard their laugh.
You don’t know what color their eyes will be.
You don’t know whether they’ll grow up loving books or bugs, music or mountains, soccer or painting, baking cookies or catching frogs.
Right now, you’re standing in one of the most remarkable transitions of your life.
Once your baby arrives, everything changes.
Your routines.
Your identity.
Your family.
If this is your first baby, you’ll never again know what it feels like for it to be just the two of you.
If you’re welcoming another little one, your family is about to become something entirely new.
That’s what maternity photography preserves.
Not simply what you looked like.
But what this chapter felt like.
The beautiful in-between.

Although Brittany and Nick’s session took place during the lush greenery of early summer, Fleurish is honestly beautiful all year long.
Spring brings fresh growth and vibrant greens.
Summer feels bright, airy, and timeless.
Autumn offers warm light and cozy textures.
During November and December, I also host Christmas Mini Sessions at Fleurish, and they’re always some of my favorite sessions of the year. If you’d like to be added to the email list and receive details when booking opens, I’d love to hear from you.
I’m based just a short drive away in Statesville, North Carolina, and regularly photograph families throughout Taylorsville, Hickory, Mooresville, Charlotte, and the surrounding areas. Fleurish has become one of my favorite places for maternity, motherhood, family, couples, and seasonal portrait sessions because it’s such a peaceful, timeless space.
If you’re expecting a little one and have been thinking about scheduling maternity photos, I hope you’ll do it.
Not because everything has to be perfect.
Not because you’ll necessarily feel perfectly confident.
But because years from now, when your child isn’t so little anymore, you’ll have something that takes you back to the season before you met them.
And that’s a gift worth giving yourself.

Fleurish Greenhouse is located in Taylorsville, North Carolina, just a short drive from Statesville, Hickory, Mooresville, and the Charlotte area. Its beautiful glass greenhouse, thoughtfully designed gardens, and year-round natural light make it one of my favorite portrait locations in North Carolina.
Absolutely! Fleurish is a wonderful location for maternity, couples, engagement, elopements, micro-weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, engagement parties, family, motherhood, branding, and seasonal portrait sessions. The greenhouse offers a unique, light-filled setting that photographs beautifully throughout the year. Here is the link to learn more about Fleurish Greenhouse.
Fleurish is approximately 25 minutes from Statesville (where I am based), making it an easy drive for many of my clients.
Soft neutral colors photograph beautifully inside the greenhouse. Cream, ivory, oatmeal, beige, sage green, dusty blue, and warm earth tones all complement the greenery and natural textures without distracting from your connection. Flowy dresses photograph especially well during pregnancy, while partners look great in simple, neutral clothing that feels comfortable and timeless. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and fits your aesthetic. I’m happy to recommend a stylist if you’d like help with your outfits.
For most pregnancies, I recommend scheduling your session between 30 and 34 weeks. This timing usually gives you a beautifully defined baby bump while still allowing you to move comfortably and enjoy the session. If you’re expecting multiples or have a high-risk pregnancy, we may choose an earlier date. It is a pretty personal decision. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss it.
Definitely! My favorite maternity sessions focus on your relationship just as much as your growing baby. Partners are always encouraged to participate, and those quiet moments together often become some of the most meaningful images.
Yes! Including older siblings is one of my favorite ways to tell the story of your growing family. Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, I love documenting the excitement, curiosity, and anticipation that comes with welcoming someone new. I have 4 kids myself, and I love working with children of all ages.
Yes! That’s one of the biggest reasons I love photographing there. Because the greenhouse is filled with beautiful natural light, sessions can often continue even if the weather outside isn’t perfect. Rain on the glass roof can even add an extra layer of coziness and romance to your images.
I do! Many of my maternity clients invite me back once their baby arrives, and it’s one of the greatest joys of my job. Watching families grow over the years is incredibly meaningful, and I’d be honored to help document each chapter of your story.
