A Simple Biltmore Estate Proposal That Still Inspires Me Today
Some proposals stay with you forever.
This proposal happened more than a decade ago.
Back in April of 2013, Tyrone contacted me because he wanted to ask one of the biggest questions of his life at the Biltmore Estate.
There wasn’t a huge production planned.
No flower arches.
No candles.
No musicians waiting around the corner.
Just a beautiful spring afternoon, one incredible backdrop, and the woman he couldn’t wait to marry.
More than twelve years later, I still find myself coming back to these images. Not because they were the most elaborate proposal I’ve photographed, but because they remind me that the best proposals aren’t measured by how much you spend. They’re measured by how much joy it brings you and your partner.
You Don’t Need an Over-the-Top Proposal
It’s easy to fall into the Pinterest trap.

We spent about 30 minutes together.
That gave us plenty of time to capture:
- The proposal itself
- Ticora’s emotional reaction
- The first hugs and happy tears
- A few portraits afterward
- Ring photographs before they headed off to celebrate
That’s all they wanted.
That’s all they needed.
The result is a gallery that still feels just as joyful today as it did back in 2013. It’s amazing to have a moment like this captured to show your family and friends, and maybe even your own children one day.
Sometimes less really is more.
