This session happened in May, just outside of Winston-Salem, on this family’s land.
It was one of those evenings where everything just worked. The light was soft, the kids had space to move, and no one was trying too hard to make anything happen.
They played. They ran. They climbed all over their parents. And in between all of that, we got the kind of images that actually feel like this stage of life.

I don’t expect kids to stand still or follow directions perfectly. I have four of my own, so I know how quickly things fall apart when there’s too much pressure.
What works better is giving them a little freedom.
They wander, they come back, they find their people again. That rhythm is where the good stuff is.
During this session, the baby played with his mama while the girls ran through the grass, held hands, got distracted, came back in close. Mom cuddled the baby and dad carried the girls into a wheat field and that’s where the magic golden light made me feel something as the girls giggled and played. Nothing felt forced, and that’s exactly why it worked.
The biggest shift happens when parents relax.
You don’t have to manage every second. You don’t have to correct or fix things the whole time. When you loosen up and play along with your kids, everything changes.
They settle in.
They connect.
It starts to feel easy.
That’s when the photos start to look like your life instead of a version of it.
Most of the session is movement and interaction, but I’ll step in here and there to bring everyone together.
Nothing stiff. Just enough guidance so you have a few solid images of everyone together, looking good, without losing the natural feel of the session.
You end up with both. The in-between moments and the ones your parents will want to frame.
Spring is one of the best times for family photos around here.
Everything is green again, the light hangs a little longer in the evening, and kids enjoy being outside. It’s not super hot yet, which makes parents happy. : )
It’s simple, and that simplicity shows up in the photos.
This session was on their farm, which made it feel personal and relaxed from the start.
But you don’t need a property like this.
I photograph families all over the Winston-Salem area. Backyards, local parks, quiet spots with good light, places up in the mountains. If you’re not sure where to go, I’ll help you figure it out.
The goal is always the same. A place where your family can settle in and just be together.
I’ve lived in this area for years, and with four kids of my own, I know how fast this all moves.
You think you’ll remember it, but the details shift. The way they run, the way they lean into you, the way they still want to be held.
That’s what I’m paying attention to.
If you’re looking for a Winston-Salem family photographer and want something that feels easy and true to your family, I’d love to help you plan it.
We’ll keep it simple and make something that actually feels like your life.
